Tribute to my Father

This is no fitting tribute...and I know that I don't "know" any of you, really.  But I have shared a great deal with you readers, and you with me, so I couldn't not share that we have lost our Dad today.  He has been sick for years, so it is a blessing that he isn't sick anymore.  But it is oh, so sad to lose your Daddy.

Here is a picture when he worked for General Electric in his '20s.  I am his spitting image.  He was one of ten, grew up in the country in Georgia, and his family always called him "Smiley".  He was the youngest boy.

Here is a more recent picture with our oldest, Liam.

If you are the praying type, please say a prayer for our family.

Life is so beautiful and so quick.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. It is never easy to lose a loved one, even if they have been sick for a long time and it is expected. It is still the passing of an era. Take care of yourself.

  3. This is sad to hear. It's bittersweet to know that they aren't suffering anymore and hard to deal with altogether. Your family is in my thoughts tonight...

  22. On August 19th it will be one year since I lost my Dad. He was 90 when he passed, but the last four years of his life he had dimentia, and eventually lost his eyesite. He had been a pastor all his life. The hardest part of those last 4 years was to see the one thing he loved the most (his love for the Lord) slowly slip from his memory. I too found peace in knowing he was out of his suffering and was with the Lord he so dearly loved. However, the loss is still great - I miss him every day and look forward to the day we are reunited. I will be praying for you and your family in the days ahead. May the Lord shine his face on you and give you peace in this difficult time. If you would like to send me one of your favorite pictures of your Dad (make it as clear as possible), I would love to send you a little something to remember him by. Take care.

  24. I'm a fairly new reader of your blog and I havent popped out of google reader much to comment, but I just had to today.

I lost my father about a year and a half ago and my heart goes out to you today. My dad was also sick for awhile prior to his passing, so I understand what you mean by a "blessing that he isnt sick anymore".

You are in my thoughts and prayers!

    XOXO

  26. Julie, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom almost 7 years ago. Even when we are "grown-ups", we still feel a bit like orphans when we lose our parents.
