When I started this blog in May I was bursting with passion and ideas about design (still am), so it really was a natural next step....(free!) I was spending so much time reading design blogs at night, I thought, "Why not just start one myself."
When I first wrote Sissy about fabric or something asked me if I worked in design. I said, "No. But I want to." When you know you have a strong desire about something, don't you find yourself looking for validation outside of you?
Anyway, I hope y'all are tired about me sharing everything about what it going on and starting a business. This is just how it is unfolding for us and I want to share it! I really do have a desire to have a successful design business one day, to have a shop, and to keep writing.
I was talking with a design blogger yesterday and she was telling me how a lot of designers who have their design business up-and-running and then decide to blog think negatively about bloggers who then wish to create a design business after they have been blogging (like me). I can see how they might feel that way...but life is a journey and none of us can really plan where it might take us. Well, we can plan, and we should, but "life is what happens after we have already made plans" right?
But even though I dreamed of being published one day I didn't think (if it did happen at all), that it would happen so soon. I still don't know the date but you know I will share when they are here!
And now they tell me that the renovation magazine "Kitchen and Bath Makeovers" (a sister company of BH & G) will be shooting our master bath. I am so excited!!
And the Milk and Honey team (Anisa and I) are meeting with our first prospective client today...here home in Buckhead is going through a major renovation. Fingers crossed that the family likes us!
Thank you, readers, for reading when you do and your comments and encouragement have meant so much. Without you none of this would be happening!
Love y'all........Julie
This is so exciting! Congrats to you and wishing you much success Julie!

Congrats!! You deserve it!1 Can't wait to see you in print!! Thanks for the mention!
ReplyDeleteWhen you have talent you have talent and I can't imagine why anyone would frown upon being a designer and then blogging or blogging and then becoming a designer. Oh the things people worry about! I am so happy for you and all your successes. You deserve them all. You have a great eye and I can't wait to see your home in BHG!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited and happy for you!!! YOU DID IT! YOU DID IT! (adapted from Dora song, sorry but that's what was running through my head as I typed this)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I find it really refreshing at all your honesty and PUTTING YOURSELF OUT THERE! Design can be a slightly snobby profession (let's admit it, we've all walked into a chic boutique and been a little ignored - at one time or another). So I find it refreshing and wonderful to be able to go onto design blogs and "chat" with other people who are just really passionate about design, but with none of the attitude! I think a lot of us dream about one day doing something with our hobby, but I'm just not sure I have the gumption right now :)
ReplyDeleteVery exciting! I can't wait for the magazine to come out.

So glad to hear things are going well! Good luck on the prospect today. It's always so nerve racking and then you take a deep breath and remember they called YOU for a reason.
ReplyDeleteI think there is no one way to go about doing what you love. I am always shocked to hear when some designers are soooo worried about others wanting to pursue a career in design. I think this just reflects a lack of self confidence in themselves! It doesn't matter what order you go in to get where you want to be.
Can't wait to see your home in the magazine! Sooo awesome, I would be freaking out right now.
Well, you're just flying along, aren't you? Perhaps BH&G didn't use your kitchen in your story so Lisa just went over to K&BMakeovers to show it to Marie and Rachel! Rachel loves the bloggers...like Linda@Lime in the Coconut...I styled her kitchen and two bathrooms last year for K&B Makeovers...small world!
ReplyDeletehow exciting! congrats - you deserve every bit of it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your quote about life happens after we have made plans. And congratulations on your success. You deserve it!
ReplyDeleteyeah! I am so excited for you!
ReplyDeleteHooray! And here's to doing what YOU LOVE!!!!
ReplyDelete(missed you the other night!)

ReplyDeleteJulie this is brilliant news. Goodluck with your client meeting. It is great when you do something that you love and have a passion for it..Sinead x
ReplyDeleteOh, they're just jealous! (Sorry, that's just what my mom would always say when someone would make a snide remark to me). I must admit, I am a bit. You've done SO much in such a short time. I would love to pursue design too, I think I just lack the courage. You are an inspiration!
ReplyDeletecongrats to you! you are a talented designer - who cares what came first - blog or business?! you are also a talented writer. you are real and honest and funny. keep it up - the designing AND the blogging!! oh, and i can totally picture a store called "Milk & Honey Home :)
