good bones, baby

This is a listing of a charming home in Mobile, Alabama.  Why am I looking at homes in Mobile, you ask? Good question.

Well, Katie (my online client there) was telling me a story about a home for sale in her hometown whose owners have some killer style.  I had a moment so I poked around to try to find it.

I didn't find that home.  But I did find this gem with a beautiful schoolhouse 10-light door and ebonized floors...

And some pretty amazing lighting.

double fireplaces!!

I find it really true that if you start with good bones...it almost doesn't matter what you put in the home.

It is like Giselle.  Put her in a paper bag and she's still a knockout.

Sometimes it is fun to look at real estate.  I did it for SO long, though, before we
bought this home, I think I have had enough for a lifetime.  Are you a stalker?

  1. This house has similar "bones" to the house we just signed a contract on! I hope I can make our home just as charming. Thank you for sharing (and the words of encouragement yesterday). :)

  8. The outside is what gets me the most- soooo ridiculously charming. Also loving the black and white colour palate and giant high ceilings-the only thing I'm not so crazy about is that TV box thing but that's pretty minor:) It is a stunning home- how much is it? On second thought, I probably don't want to know. Where I live, you can't get anything that nice for under 2m so I almost don't want to know. Anyhow....gorgeous! And I am real estate obsessed too- stalk mls like a mad woman xo

  10. Looking at those photos makes me homesick - I'm originally from Mobile, too! At $319k, it's not a steal (by Mobile standards), but it's about what I expected for that area of town. No doubt about it - I'm a real estate stalker.

  14. Some good bones! What a house, Julie!

I also would like too know how much a house like that would set me back in Alabama. I sure know what it would cost in Seattle. A skyscraper!

    A warm hug to you,

  17. Ohhh, that one is a gem! So many pretty, old houses in Mobile, right. And you're right, the bones of the house are soooo important. Great furniture in bad bones only makes the house look a little better. While, bad furniture in a good house barely hurts it at all...
