Suzanne Kasler's Line is Out & A Little Bargain Hunting!

How great is this mirror from Suzanne Kasler's new line at Ballard Designs?  My client may be buying it!  It is out now at Ballards 

(believe me, I get no props for talking about them...I just shop there a lot and I love that they are local...and the outlet is down the street!)

Here are her white antlers...that my client also wants.

How beautiful is this mirrored sconce?  Can you tell that Jill Brinson works for Ballard Designs?  Remember her Atlanta home from House Beautiful?

Can you imagine a dinner of say roast chicken, chocolate silk pie & some malbec with some candles twinkling on those sconces?  Isn't that what design is all about....beauty?

Eavesdrop on a Conversation: Part II

I am posting this for a client...feel free to read along, too!

Okay....so we have the DR painted the beautiful Navajo White by B. Moore

it is getting there!  

Let me show you one more picture of cream drapes before I move onto the den:

I just love how they blend with the walls so the furniture can steal the show...

Oh, and one more thing about the DR...we could use that Sanctuary paint (Ben Moore...a light violet) for the ceiling.  Can you imagine the glow?

I lied.  A few more pics about the DR.  Here is that light you love (from BH& G)  Two of these would be pretty...and a great price point.

And look at these star pendants that are antiqued mirror instead of glass!  They are $200 each....we could line three above the dining table.  So romantic.

And speaking of lighting, here is the capiz light you found on Ebay.  I love this image (again, from BH&G)

Have you & Jer talked more about lighting for the den?  It is not my first choice, but you could move your current DR fixture into the den:  (or keep it where it is...I know it is growing on y'all to keep it!)

Or we could Craigslist or consign that fixture (like we talked about), and go with something more rustic like below (from the Christmas House 2009 AH & L)  

Don't you love?  We could find a similar one that is electric.  Can't see candles being practical for your current lifestyle.

Armoire is staying currently.  The kids love their Wii...and daddy, too!

If you ever do go to a flatscreen in this room, here is one way to beautifully conceal it above the fireplace.  You could use a mirror instead of a painting.  Quite inventive (from Southern Living Magazine)   I still am not a huge fan of TV on the fireplace...but really, is there ever a good place for a TV?

Depending on what you get for over the DR table (and how many fixtures), we could consider two lanterns for den (via Traditional Home)

I am a big fan of this....but I know most people do not share my opinion.  I love a light low, over the coffee table, like above (image unknown...maybe Skona Hem).  You will not hit it with your head (unless you walk on the table!), and it creates intimacy and coziness in a room with tall ceilings or two stories.  Just something to consider.  I love our low fixture over our coffee table.  The contractors & Chris thought I was nuts....but now they love it!

And I still love a luctie coffee table for this room (Katie Stassi's room...I think Cottage Living)

And lastly, for the den, what do you think of hanging several antique maps from a picture rail?  That wall is so long and so big...this could be fun (via Martha Stewart)

We could use all white or cream frames to brighten that side of the room

Eavesdrop on a Conversation: Part I

One thing I love about blogging is that there are really no rules.  That is kinda fun!  So, I thought if I was spending some time researching for a client....why not share it with her and you at the same time?  So, here it goes....

So I am so glad that we are both so excited!  I think that is a good sign, design wise, that we are speaking over one another.  I love that we both have so many ideas...and many times they are colliding into one beautiful thought!


Here are some images that will help describe what I was talking about, and to clarify some of the things you wanted.  Let me know what you think of these....and what you & Jer think of the mirror and tray.  Don't keep anything you don't love!!


To start with the dining room:


We could use panels and sconces!!  It would be romantic and dramatic.  Here is an example.  I could find simple & skinny fixtures.

and we can think about a shelf on your window wall!  (Chris can build & install this)  You can put any kind of collection here....white vases, vintage cameras, globes...just another idea

I didn't really notice these chairs from Kasler's line with Ballard before, but they are kind of what you are looking for.  We could reupholster the back and monogram them!  Just an option...I agree with you that an antique would be more fitting.

See the contrasting fabric on the back?  How fun to have a grain sack back with a big M with a crown?  LOVE.

Back to DR:

Want to show you more light fixtures for above the DR table.  Did you buy that capiz pendant for the breakfast nook (I think you should...so pretty and you won't beat that price)?  Once you pull the trigger in one room, it will help you to make decisions for the other rooms.  Here are some amazing fixtures from South of Market.  One lunch hour go buy there...in Peachtree Hills.  Very french & rustic, I think.  (And Chris can make you one!)

More from South of Market I still love a simple cone shape..and two of them!

I still can't get over the idea of some big ass simple white cones.

Or even an inexpensive paper lantern (via House and Home)

And for some lighting on the buffet and console:

I was talking in the message about two huge white lamps for the mirrored buffet, like these from AH & L (I think this is the Bungalow Classic room).  I can find really similar ones at my HomeGoods.

Remember how I said we can off center your wedding pic and put mirrors to the right?  We also could put some of your wedding china!  from Style at Home
